I realized that there has been lack of posting from my side. I don't have any excuse for that, it was a pretty hectic year for me especially the last couple of months.. I do still want to continue with the blog, because this is my baby.. And I really need to be committed.. something that I need to really work on... I have to try to ignore the lack of views on my page (don't let it discourage me!) and more of thinking that I do this because I really love books and I just wanna share my love for books.. Whether there will be someone reading my posts or not..

Well well, Happy 2015! One for sure, I have no resolution nor goal this year, I would just do whatever I wanna do and let it fly from there.. I am not good at planning anw..

So.... what are you going to read, Deska? well for January 2015, I have 4 books in mind that I want to get through, two of them (The Retribution of Mara Dyer and The Queen of The Tearling) are gifts from my friends (THANK YOU SO MUCH IKAO and AMY <3), and the other two (These Broken Stars and The Silkworm) are the two books that I really feel the need to read at the moment (other than The Golden Son by Pierce Brown that I just ordered online yesterday).

And what a dilemma, I do not know which one to start first, so I am going to do the TBR jar thing and see what books I will read first (pulling the nominees):

Okay, so here is the result, I will read these books in order:

1. These Broken Stars by Amy Kaufmann and Meghan Spooner

2. The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith

3. The Queen of The Tearling by Erika Johansen

4. The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

So excited! Let's Read! ;)

Then Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.

Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Her former best friend is still around, as is her first boyfriend…and he’s much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve.

As the summer progresses and the Edwards become more of a family, they’re more aware than ever that they’re battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance—with family, with friends, and with love.

As for the Romance and Friendship, it was kinda typical for me, and predictable.. So am not going to write much about it.. it was okay.. it was cute..

But the family story in this book was really hit me close to the heart.. this book deals with issue of losing an important member of your family.. In this book, it was Taylor's dad.. In my life, it was my dad.. all the feels that were described in the book were pretty much the same painful feels that I had experienced in real life.. I was crying towards the end.. it was too spot on.. I can relate to Taylor and her family..big time...

And I just feel I can't write more, coz I am kinda emotionally drained.. Read the book, if it's Morgan Matson, it is a guarantee that it will be a perfect (summer) contemporary read...

I think I was in the right mood to read this kind of book.. a good choice for an Adult Contemporary Summer Read..

I bought this book without knowing what it was all about, the cover of the book drew me in and when I read the synopsis at the back, this book promised an adventure of traveling to some summery places in the world.. (well, the mentioned of Bali won me over tho.. haha).

Basically this book was about two sisters, Katie and Mia Greene. And one day, Katie received a phone call at night then a visit from some officials that informed her about her sister, Mia who was found dead in Bali. Long story short, Katie and Mia were not in the best relationship situation and for the last six months (when Mia started her traveling journey) were kinda no-significant-communication and cold. Then after the death of Mia, Katie got Mia's travel journal, marking and answering some important events in these sisters life that lead to Katie who then decided one day to follow her sister's journey, traveling around the world to find some answers following Mia's death which by officials announced as an act of suicide.

I really liked these books mainly because of the characters, the twists, the drama, and the plot. The characters were really intriguing and how then the story shaped the addictive drama plot that untangling the mystery surrounding Mia's death layer by layer. Some of the twists were pretty unpredictable too. At the end, I really enjoyed the traveling adventure story in the book. It was kinda Eat, Pray, Love but with mystery and drama and also someone died in this book.

At first I thought this book was going to be a crime mystery kind of book, but it was not.. It was more mystery, drama, contemporary read and it was perfect to read at the pool-side or at the beach.. :)

This book has other name too, I think Swimming at Night is the title for the American Market. The book's original name is The Sea Sisters, I think this one is for the UK market. And I really enjoyed Lucy Clarke's writing style, recently she has new book published called A Single Breathe, it sounds amazingly intriguing, I might check that out soon ;)

There was something really classic, timeless, and super attractive about Eleanor and Park.. I can't say anything more, coz I personally found this book flawless! And the ending, tho it was kinda abrupt, but I couldn't help to smile and think what I think that would be.. It got to be it! *wink*

I WANT THIS BOOK TO BE MADE INTO A MOVIE! I even made this super quick fanvid of who I think will picture Eleanor and Park.. Check it out! Haha and tell me what you think XD

TFIOS by John Green, A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, and now... I can proudly add Wonder by R.J. Palacio to the gloriously tear-jerking reading list..

Not like TFIOS or A Monster Calls which cause more sad-tears and then post-reading it, you feel like you need a self-reflection time to kinda absorb everything.. Wonder is so self-liberating.. It causes happy-tears and you are just touched and can not help to just feel loved..

Reading this book and knowing this character named August Pullman (Auggie), I love him so very much, it feels like you grew up with him throughout the story.. The story is beautiful, well-paced, great development on every character, and the writing style is wonderful, I just flew through it..

This book is told in multiple perspectives but with Auggie as the main POV, so other characters POVs are more like companion. But it works for the story, and it's so fascinating to read what is inside Auggie's head and others too.. How much love these characters have and give to one another...

It's such heart warming and happy tear-jerking kind of book.. Another perfect summer read.. highly RECOMMEND IT!!! Oh, I wish this book will be made into a movie.. it will be AMAZING!!!!

Now readers will have a chance to hear from the book's most controversial character—Julian.

From the very first day Auggie and Julian met in the pages of the #1 New York Times bestseller Wonder, it was clear they were never going to be friends, with Julian treating Auggie like he had the plague. And while Wonder told Auggie's story through six different viewpoints, Julian's perspective was never shared. Readers could only guess what he was thinking.

Until now. The Julian Chapter will finally reveal the bully's side of the story. Why is Julian so unkind to Auggie? I have mixed-feelings about him... I didn't like him and just thought him as a plain bully with no remorse, and her mom too.. But post-reading Wonder, I just kinda want to know what happen to him.. I know this novella just came out recently, and I decided to get it and read it instantly... and I am happy I did it...

In this novella, we get to know more of The Albans family, Julian's Mom and Dad.. and then, my favorite, Julian's Grandmere... I love her!

This book is pretty short, I think it is less than 100 pages (I read it on my IPhone, so I'm not really sure), we can see the development of Julian's way of thinking, right from the first time he met Auggie until after the last scene at the end of Wonder.

What really happen of Julian, What was he thinking when he was being so mean to Auggie, What really come upon him after everything, Did he regret what he did to Auggie, etc etc etc.. This Novella will give the answer to you :) and at the end, I am kinda proud of Julian too <3

This is going to be totally subjective of me.... At the end, this book won me over and I ended up liking it.. *silent applause*

So lemme tell U this.. People who are Japanese, students of East Asian studies or Japanese Literature, huge fans of Japanese Mangas/Anime/Music/Drama/Film or like me who happened to grow up and still until today with Japanese entertainment medias (Mangas/Anime/Music/Drama/Film) so have enough/decent knowledge of everything Japanese.. Probably will criticize this book coz that was the first thing that I did when I read half way through the book..

Am not saying that I am an expert of Japanese culture because I am not.... But I think the author needs to do more in depth research on the general Japanese custom or culture during the feudal times where I think this book based on and twisted it with the steampunk touch and supernatural.. People who watch Anime and read Manga of Samurai X, Inuyasha, and Sakura Wars will understand what I am really saying here.. The fist wrapping thing, I never seen that custom on any Japanese customary in feudal times or any time.. I believe it is more the custom in Chinese martial arts.. Then I kinda have problem with the name calling, you guys who learn or have learned Japanese calling hierarchy must know how complex this thing.. Yeah, so in the first half, I found the name calling in the book was not what I expected esp when I already used to read or watch Japanese mangas or animes or tv series or movies.. So it was really hard not to compare it..

I also have problem with the writing style, it was too over descriptive so it felt meaningless at some point.. This book had a really slow and dragging development.. And almost ALMOST cheesy in the romance department..

And you guys, this book had REALLY DIFFICULT Japanese terminologies! I was saved because I used to these terms coz I was kinda grew up with it (watched animes since I was a baby maybe) and I did learn Japanese language for two years.. But for people who don't have the knowledge, It will confuse you, but there was Glossary at the back of the book which I just realized after like 150ish pages into it.. Hmm.. Just a mild reminder for U who want to read the book.. There is Glossary at the back.

So why a quite high rating.. When I could overlook all those flaws, this book was pretty engaging.. I probably started enjoying it after halfway through it.. The story did get better and had faster pace than the first half of the book.. Tho the writing style was still kinda too over descriptive that kinda gave me a headache.. The romance, when you think it was going to fall to cheesy category with "the beautiful boy with green eyes", you are wrong.. And Kin, I like this character way more than the female protagonist who was also the main character in the book.. I personally like Kin so very much, I think his story was really interesting and I wish for more of him.. And I also like the world building so far.. The ending was kinda satisfying and cliffhanger-ish at the same time that make you were wondering "and what happen next"..

So that was my review.. At the end I enjoyed it and liked it too.. Can't wait to read the sequel!!! (Hope there will be more of Kin.....) :)

But she is told that Raoden, her husband to be, is dead.

Determined to carry on the fight for Teod and Arelon's freedom, Sarene clashes with the high priest Hrathen. If Hrathen can persuade the populace to convert, Fjordell will reign supreme.

But there are secrets in Elantris, the dead and the ruined may yet have a role to play in this new world. I am enchanted by the beauty of Brandon Sanderson's world... so EPIC!

so I bought Elantris in hoping to get introduced to the magical world that Brandon Sanderson has created through his hypnotic writing style.. And I think Elantris is a great choice for me and anyone who wants to start reading his books... I could easily choose to read his famous series, the Mistborn series, but before I invest my money, my energy, and my time, I really wanted to know first if it will be worth that much.. and Elantris sold it for me.. even after couple of pages, I knew this book is a win!

Well, I can tell you, I have all other Brandon Sanderson books waiting in my basket.. just a click away... I am that much swooned over his awesomeness...

This book is a complete package, I don't know if my review will be legit enough to describe how amazing the story of Elantris.. I think this book can stay as a Standalone.. So no worries guys, it's really satisfying..

This book is about the extinct of magic, the lost glory of the Gods, the power of politics and money, the battle of faith, the blossoming romance, loyalty and justice, and the rising of hope.. I am so so so satisfied and happy after reading this book.. is like I have found Magic... this book and I believe, all other Brandon Sanderson's books must be really magical... the story was so engaging, well-plot and developed, the characters were believable and they were so amazing.. and the writing was so easy to digest yet pretty and sharp..

If you guys haven't read any Brandon Sanderson's book before like me, I really and highly recommend you guys to pick up this book, it is a great introduction of what we can expect and read more from him.. and although on Goodreads, it said that this book is part of a series, but I think it can be a Standalone.. so no worries guys... I love it, I think it's amazing, and I think you should read it too........ ok, to the next read

And in the state of his changed life, he found another life that he had been overlooked... He started to find the true meaning of being a life etc etc etc...

I like the premise of the story... The writing style was a bit slow and kinda long (in a way) and yeah..... it was really Ok, I didn't feel any particular feelings after finished reading this book..... The characters were Ok, well-developed, thou I could not say the same to a particular female character who helped the main male character in the book post-car accident.. But I thought she had served her purpose in the boy's life here..

So.. yeah... and on-to the next read!!! :)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!

This is definitely my favorite summer read so far! A very very very perfect Summer-Read! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

This book somehow reminded me of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (in a way). These two are totally different story, but I think similar in how I feel about the female lead characters.. Although, I have to admit I love Emily Hughes more, the main female in Since You've Been Gone.. and Gosh.. can I have a Frank Porter!??? WE NEED TO CLONE THIS GUY!!!

This was a story about Emily who had a bestfriend named Sloane and then Sloane kinda disappeared at the beginning of Summer. Emily was a girl, a pretty much socially awkward and unconfident about herself and Sloane was exactly the opposite of Emily. Their friendship worked so well, and Emily was pretty dependent on Sloane in terms of social-interactions with a general-similar-age-group-of-people. The disappearance of Sloane had such impacts on Emily's life. She was like a ship without a captain. Then suddenly she received a list from Sloane sent by mail, a list of things that Emily would not normally do. But she really wanted to find Sloane, so she was hoping by doing the things in the list would put her closer to find Sloane. And this was the start of very many intersting, loving, heartwarming, funny, romantic adventures....

This book is so perfect and I really love it.. I love the writing style, the development of characters (yes, all characters in this book developed, not just the main one), the plot, the scenes, the drama, the romance, the adventures, the comedy.... oh man.. it's awesome....

If you like contemporary books, I am 100% sure that you will enjoy this book! So GO READ IT!!! <3

But being with Noah is dangerous and Mara is in constant fear that she might hurt him. She needs to learn how to control her power, and fast! It was okay, thou there were things that I want to question... Because somehow it was just left me more confused...

These characters in the book were mostly unlikeable, but the writers did a pretty good job on how to make them pretty interesting when they put them in dramatic situation. The drama, mystery, and how they act in that situation, well it was quite intriguing.. The story was told in 5 parts.. And divided based on 4 characters POVs (part 4 & 5 from one particular character POV).. I think it meant for readers to get more understanding and relate to these characters, well tbh I still didn't like them and I couldn't sympathize with them as well..

In summary of everything about this book in one sentence, it would be "there was something happened, then nothing at all".. Yeah it was confusing.. I feel in a way, these characters didn't do much, and the mystery kinda unraveled in not very spectacular way..

It was meant to be a YA mystery summer book, and I was drawn to the mysterious cover, intriguing synopsis, and that sticker telling the book to be "TeenVogue YA hottest read"..

Oh well...

They were brothers (okay okay no spoilers, I feel like I want to scream now)... and these two couldn't be anymore different, they were like two sides of a coin, but they loved and cared to each other so much... Alan was the good one who people loved and trusted and Nick was the evil one who people were scared of.... until came these two unexpected people, siblings named Mae and Jamie. Mae had been told that they should come to these two brothers if something paranormal happened which involved her brother, Jamie and a demon mark. Jamie had been marked by a demon which meant that he would be possessed, there were three stages of a demon mark and he was already on the last stage which meant hopeless to get rid off the demon mark. Nick didn't care whatsoever about them, He and his bro also his weird and detached mom had their own problem and currently on the run from magicians who seemed want to kill them coz something that her mother took a long time ago. But Alan was being a good hearted person he was, determined to help them. Nick who cared about his brother would follow through with his brother's wish, no matter how pissed he was. But then something went wrong, and in a way to save Jamie, his brother got a demon mark as well.. oh you can bet how angry Nick was.. He didn't care about anyone, anything, and willing to let people die as long as he could save his brother.. this was where the adventure began!!!!

I don't have an amazing excuse other than my work and my life are really in a crazy path at the moment.. hopefully in couple of months I will be able to get a more regular update to my book blog here.. hopefully..

I have a lot of books to show in the haul post, reviews, and challenges..

So I am wondering since it's still new year and all, what are your resolutions for 2014? My resolutions are pretty much I want to read more diverse books and increase the number of books I need to read than last year. That would be my bookish resolutions and for my life in general, I just want to be happier than before :)

Oh well, sorry I could not post any pictures, I am dying too to show you some of new books and my new shelves.. but I just could not bring my mood to be cooperative at the moment.. maybe some other time I will make a video of it instead (I think it would be more practical..)

and I hear about this bookathon 9.0! I'm INTRIGUED! I really want to participate in it! so fingerscrossed!

And before I go.. currently I am actively reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Ascend by Amanda Hocking and REREADING Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.. also I'm putting on hold on Champion by Marie Lu because I am just too scared to finish that book.. haha.. lame excuse obv..

alrighty then.. till the next post ;)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02461388822334130271noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4311529912413921539.post-85371208728544792872013-08-17T22:28:00.000-07:002013-08-17T22:29:54.372-07:00WRAP UP!!!!: My own Book-A-Thon Challenge!

HI!!!!

SO I am really excited to share you results of my own Book-A-Thon Challenge!

It was actually pretty productive, out of 7 challenges I have managed successfully executed 6 of them!

Here are the books that I read (or still am currently reading):

Details as below:

* The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain - Read a Claasic (221 pages)

* The Girl who Kicked The Hornet's Nest (Millenium #3) - Read a 500+ Page Book, Read a Book That Has Been On Your Shelf the Longest Time, AND Finish a Series! (820 pages)

* Catching Fire (The Hunger Games #2) - Re-read a Book AND Listen to an Audiobook (equal to 391 pages)

* The Gargoyles by Andrew Davidson - just finishing this book, I was already on page 366 of 499 so I finished this book off, so basically I read 133 pages)

* Stay With Me by Elyssa Patrick - an eARC provided by NetGalley and the author (216 pages)

* Scarlet by Marissa Meyer - still currently reading it, but during the book-a-thon week, I read the first 108 pages.

the only challenge that I didn't successfully execute was read more than 300 pages a day. There were days where I didn't read 300 pages, but there were days where I read more than 300 pages, so it didn't really matter I guess.

In conclusion, during the book-a-thon week, grand total of pages I read is..

(221+820+391+216+133+108) = 1,889 pages!

Well, I am happy with the result, it has been pretty productive! :D

ooohhh.. I looooovvveeee book haul! I am getting tired of typing and taking a picture of these books, maybe I should make a book haul vids and post them on YouTube (soooo entering BookTube Community?).. oh well I don't know, I'll rethink about it again..

Now, I would like to share you the amazing bargained book haul at Periplus Online! So for those who live in Indonesia, we are not really lucky enough like some of our friends who live in Canada or the US who can have access to BooksCloseout or other bookstores that can sell them great titles of YA or any other fiction books in such a great and cheap price! But Periplus is close enough, they have quite amazing selection of fiction books (YA or Adult) in a great bargained prices. I got all of these from their bargain section on their website, each under IDR 50,000 (under US$ 5). So I basically got 8 books for about IDR 250,000 (or around US$ 25). I could not pass this opportunity out..

All of them are new books! I am really excited for all of these titles!

- All books in the Fever's Mackayla Lane series (#1 Darkfever, #2 Bloodfever, #3 Faefever, #4 Dreamfever, and #5 Shadowfever) by Karen Marie Moning: at first I was afraid that Periplus only sells one or two books in the series in the bargained price, but turned out they have all the books in the bargain price, each for I think about US$ 2!

- Then I got Nemesis by Jo Nesbo, since Stieg Larsson, I haven't read any crime novels and I have heard many good things about Jo Nesbo, I am really curious, and thank God they have one of his novel on sell, so bought it!

- Blood Red Road by Moira Young! THIS book is I am most excited about!

- Pure by Julianna Baggott! Finally I got this book in such a cheap price! This book has been very expensive, I almost want to order it online, but I put it on hold coz I just have too many to read already, BUT! How can you pass this out when it is under US$ 5?!!!

Okay, I think I will put myself on book buying ban for now (with some exception since I already ordered some books in July via Bookdepository but hasn't arrived yet.. Few are already arrived, maybe I will do a bookdepo haul later on when all of those books are arrived (I want my The Cuckoo's Calling!!!!).

Okay then, till the next post! :)

I almost did not finish reading this book, but somehow I kept forcing myself coz I want to know the "big secret" that has been mentioned from the start..

So, the positive thing about this book is the cover. I love it! really well done!

The negative things, I have to say I don't like the execution of the story plot and the writing. Is this really New-Adult? I know in simple way new adult is YA + Sex, but this book is like too many sex and less focus in the development of the story. There is development, but it is just (how to say it) not there.. It just feels flat..(I think this book can be categorized as erotica?).

And it is an instant attraction (insta-love) starting from the very first sentence of the first chapter.. And I don't really feel the connection (I don't understand) the main character nor other characters in the book. Everything is just so instant. I feel nothing.. Empty is the right word to describe my feeling after reading this book..

Hah.. I am a bit disappointed, but hope other people will find more joy in reading this book than I did..

So I am going to be very brief about this one.. So I realized that The Book Community has done a Book-a-Thon challenges in July? Sorry, I kinda forgot. But I saw many people from BookTube Community have already posted their Book-a-Thon Wrap Up videos, and I know that I am kinda late to jump in on the wagon xp

But hey, it was just a bit impossible for me to do one in July, so I think I should do it this August and I think I will be on my own this time.. haha.. sad, but I really want to do this :D

So What are Book-a-Thon challenges? Here they are:
1. Read a Classic (I have adventure of Huckleberry Finn in my head.. hmm..)
2. Read a 500+ Page book (The Diviners? or Game of Throne? or maybe The Name of the Wind? I don't know - a bit ambitious this one.)
3. Re-read a Book (Chasing Fire or The Vampire Academy?)
4. Read a Book That's Been On Your Shelf the Longest (This one should be easy, I have so many to choose!)
5. Finish a Series (hmm maybe Requiem or Terminal..)
6. Listen to an Audiobook (eh hey I have Chasing Fire audio book! I can do two challenges at the same time! AWESOME!)
7. Read 300 pages a day (hmmphh.. breathe.. breathe..)

Okay I am very excited to do this actually, I will start this my very own Book-a-Thon on Saturday, August 10th to 17th!

Okay then! :D! Let's DO THIS!
I think it has a very great story plot, world-building, and setting. And the writing is flowing easily and successfully made me not wanting to put it down. And I don't know how much reliable the myth about Celtic God(or Goddess), but I found it is really a great story to take on. Makes me want to know a bit more about the myth.

Characters, this book evolves around human and centaurs (so far..) and evil-looking-mythical-vampiric-creature called Fomorian (very sick and bad bad bad creatures), which I think a really nice touch. I like the female main character, Shannon Parker, I think she is hilarious, loyal, funny, witty, and sarcastic, then there is ClanFintan, a leader-high-shaman centaur clan (I can not help myself but imagine him to look like Khal Drogo centaur version).. and surprisingly I really love almost all other characters in this book with an exception of The Queen Bitch Rhiannon (which I believe I will see more of her in the second book and Nuada, the leader of The sick Fomorians).

Okay, that'd be all I think, I just can say that I really like and enjoy this book. If you are looking for a fast-paced story in adult fantasy with awesome story line and great world building, I think this book is your answer ;)

With the Republic edging closer to chaos, the two join a group of Patriot rebels eager to help Day rescue his brother and offer passage to the Colonies. They have only one request—June and Day must assassinate the new Elector.

It’s their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long.

But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she’s haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengeance, anger and blood—what if the Patriots are wrong?

In this highly-anticipated sequel, Lu delivers a breathtaking thriller with high stakes and cinematic action.

I even took a long break while reading this book coz I was just scared to know what will happen to them.. and *BAM!*, there's the surprise, *SOBBING harder here* (I don't even have the energy to put a gif to express my feeling - I don't even think a gif can express what I feel after that ending...*

I think it is a very good read and very interesting one.. I like it in a way that it's an awesome YA adventure and mystery book.. I really love parts where John Green put some poetry references in it.. really nice touch..

What I like the best from this book is the conversation between Margo and Quentin, Quentin and his bestfriends, Quentin and his parents, Quentin and other students.. It's just obvious that I like Quentin as a character.. Tho I also have to say that Margo is definitely very unique and the way she's thinking no matter how odd that is, I somehow can understand and relate to it xp

I think that'd be all for now.. :)
