Book Review: Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

Author: Rainbow Rowell
Published: April, 12th 2012
Publisher: Orion
Pages: 324
Rating: 5/5

Synopsis:

Eleanor is the new girl in town, and with her chaotic family life, her mismatched clothes and unruly red hair, she couldn't stick out more if she tried.

Park is the boy at the back of the bus. Black T-Shirts, headphones, head in a book - he thinks he's made himself invisible. But not to Eleanor...never to Eleanor.

Slowly, steadily, through late-night conversations and an ever-growing stack of mix tapes, Eleanor and Park fall for each other. They fall in love the way you do the first time, when you're young, and you feel as if you have nothing and everything to lose.

Deskynowsky's Review:

OMG!

Possibly the best Rainbow Rowell's book I have read so far (the only book that I hvn't read from her is Landline, but I will read it soon)..

The story, the characters, the development were so hypnotizing.. There was something really classic, timeless, and super attractive about Eleanor and Park.. I can't say anything more, coz I personally found this book flawless! And the ending, tho it was kinda abrupt, but I couldn't help to smile and think what I think that would be.. It got to be it! *wink*

I WANT THIS BOOK TO BE MADE INTO A MOVIE! I even made this super quick fanvid of who I think will picture Eleanor and Park.. Check it out! Haha and tell me what you think XD

Book Review: Wonder by R.J. Palacio and The Julian Chapter (Wonder Novella) by R.J. Palacio

Author: R.J. Palacio
Published: January, 3rd 2013
Publisher: Corgi
Pages: 315
Rating: 5/5

Synopsis:

You can't blend in when you were born to stand out.

My Name is August.

I won't describe what i look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.

Deskynowsky's Review:

there are only few books that have made me cry so far or as far as I can remember..... TFIOS by John Green, A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, and now... I can proudly add Wonder by R.J. Palacio to the gloriously tear-jerking reading list..

Not like TFIOS or A Monster Calls which cause more sad-tears and then post-reading it, you feel like you need a self-reflection time to kinda absorb everything.. Wonder is so self-liberating.. It causes happy-tears and you are just touched and can not help to just feel loved..

Reading this book and knowing this character named August Pullman (Auggie), I love him so very much, it feels like you grew up with him throughout the story.. The story is beautiful, well-paced, great development on every character, and the writing style is wonderful, I just flew through it..

This book is told in multiple perspectives but with Auggie as the main POV, so other characters POVs are more like companion. But it works for the story, and it's so fascinating to read what is inside Auggie's head and others too.. How much love these characters have and give to one another...

It's such heart warming and happy tear-jerking kind of book.. Another perfect summer read.. highly RECOMMEND IT!!! Oh, I wish this book will be made into a movie.. it will be AMAZING!!!!

Author: R.J. Palacio
Published: May, 13th 2014
Publisher: Knoph Books
Pages: 84 (ebook)
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis:

Over 1 million people have read Wonder and have fallen in love with Auggie Pullman, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary face. Now readers will have a chance to hear from the book's most controversial character—Julian.

From the very first day Auggie and Julian met in the pages of the #1 New York Times bestseller Wonder, it was clear they were never going to be friends, with Julian treating Auggie like he had the plague. And while Wonder told Auggie's story through six different viewpoints, Julian's perspective was never shared. Readers could only guess what he was thinking.

Until now. The Julian Chapter will finally reveal the bully's side of the story. Why is Julian so unkind to Auggie? And does he have a chance for redemption?

Deskynowsky's Review:

Julian... I have mixed-feelings about him... I didn't like him and just thought him as a plain bully with no remorse, and her mom too.. But post-reading Wonder, I just kinda want to know what happen to him.. I know this novella just came out recently, and I decided to get it and read it instantly... and I am happy I did it...

In this novella, we get to know more of The Albans family, Julian's Mom and Dad.. and then, my favorite, Julian's Grandmere... I love her!

This book is pretty short, I think it is less than 100 pages (I read it on my IPhone, so I'm not really sure), we can see the development of Julian's way of thinking, right from the first time he met Auggie until after the last scene at the end of Wonder.

What really happen of Julian, What was he thinking when he was being so mean to Auggie, What really come upon him after everything, Did he regret what he did to Auggie, etc etc etc.. This Novella will give the answer to you :) and at the end, I am kinda proud of Julian too <3

Book Review: Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Author: Morgan Matson
Published: May 6th, 2014
Publisher: Simon & Schuster (hardback)
Pages: 449
Rating: 5/5

Deskynowsky's Review (Free Spoilers):

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!

This is definitely my favorite summer read so far! A very very very perfect Summer-Read! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

This book somehow reminded me of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (in a way). These two are totally different story, but I think similar in how I feel about the female lead characters.. Although, I have to admit I love Emily Hughes more, the main female in Since You've Been Gone.. and Gosh.. can I have a Frank Porter!??? WE NEED TO CLONE THIS GUY!!!

This was a story about Emily who had a bestfriend named Sloane and then Sloane kinda disappeared at the beginning of Summer. Emily was a girl, a pretty much socially awkward and unconfident about herself and Sloane was exactly the opposite of Emily. Their friendship worked so well, and Emily was pretty dependent on Sloane in terms of social-interactions with a general-similar-age-group-of-people. The disappearance of Sloane had such impacts on Emily's life. She was like a ship without a captain. Then suddenly she received a list from Sloane sent by mail, a list of things that Emily would not normally do. But she really wanted to find Sloane, so she was hoping by doing the things in the list would put her closer to find Sloane. And this was the start of very many intersting, loving, heartwarming, funny, romantic adventures....

This book is so perfect and I really love it.. I love the writing style, the development of characters (yes, all characters in this book developed, not just the main one), the plot, the scenes, the drama, the romance, the adventures, the comedy.... oh man.. it's awesome....

If you like contemporary books, I am 100% sure that you will enjoy this book! So GO READ IT!!! <3

Deskynowsky's Review (FREE SPOILERS):

HOLY HOLY HOLY BAT-SHIT!!!!!!!

I am just so soooo sooooo freaking glad that I decided to pick up this book, it's just definitely a 5 BRIGHT STARS READ! I have to thank-you, Ellen from AstridTheBookworm (a booktuber), her review on The Evolution of Mara Dyer convinced me to continue with the series... You might not know, but I didn't really impress with the first book, it was just too heavy on the romance-cheesiness! that I kinda felt a bit iffy about it...

BUT THIS was/is definitely a winning sequel for me.. I fell in love with the story, the characters, the creeps, the romance, the mystery, and the everything! so PERFECT! Everything was just in right proportion! all the elements in the story were perrrrrrffffeeeccct! Enough creeps, enough romance (It's a Swoon Fest. and Noah was the STAR!), enough drama, enough thriller, enough mystery, it was just CLICKED!

What can I say more.. read this book, it's more intense, creepier, more mysterious, and more superior than the first!

OMG! I can not wait for the third book to come out! I WANT MOREEEEEEEE... the ending was craaazzzzyyy!!!! <3 <3 <3

Book Review: The Demon's Lexicon (The Demon's Lexicon #1) by Sarah Rees Brennan

I can't tell you how many book reviews I have missed to write about on this blog... I am so sorry to neglect you for so long.. but I feel like to write one now.... This book, guys... THIS BOOK IS SUPER SUPER SUPER AWESOME!!!!!

I FOUND A GEM!!!!!!!! and thanks to my friend, Atri who relentlessly recommended me this book.. this is super awesome!.. THANK YOU!!!

I LOVE THIS BOOOK SOOO MUCH!!!!I haven't read anything that kind of shocked and knocked me out of my chair as hard as this one!Great and Unexpected TWISTS! Amazing Characters! Superb Storyline! OH MY GOD!!!! I'm rolling on my bed wanting to have the second and the third book now! (already ordered them and their on their way now..... come now come nooowwwwww)

Okay, to put it simple, this was the story about two boys named Nick and Alan Ryves.. They were brothers (okay okay no spoilers, I feel like I want to scream now)... and these two couldn't be anymore different, they were like two sides of a coin, but they loved and cared to each other so much... Alan was the good one who people loved and trusted and Nick was the evil one who people were scared of.... until came these two unexpected people, siblings named Mae and Jamie. Mae had been told that they should come to these two brothers if something paranormal happened which involved her brother, Jamie and a demon mark. Jamie had been marked by a demon which meant that he would be possessed, there were three stages of a demon mark and he was already on the last stage which meant hopeless to get rid off the demon mark. Nick didn't care whatsoever about them, He and his bro also his weird and detached mom had their own problem and currently on the run from magicians who seemed want to kill them coz something that her mother took a long time ago. But Alan was being a good hearted person he was, determined to help them. Nick who cared about his brother would follow through with his brother's wish, no matter how pissed he was. But then something went wrong, and in a way to save Jamie, his brother got a demon mark as well.. oh you can bet how angry Nick was.. He didn't care about anyone, anything, and willing to let people die as long as he could save his brother.. this was where the adventure began!!!!

Dang I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH! ONE OF THE ULTIMATE BEST BOOK IN MY ENTIRE READING LIFE! The first half of this book was great, with some actions and then the second half was GREATER (if that even a proper english word), the twist that happened toward the end of the book literally knock me out of breath! I was speechless and breathless. I needed time to stand and jumped to calm myself down..

The only thing that at first bothered me was this book is told the story from the Third Person POV... It took me a lil bit time to get used to it first, but as the story progresses, it didn't bother me that much anymore..

MANNNNNN.... I WANT THE SECOND AND THIRD BOOK NOW!!!! *waiting patiently for Mr. Mailman to come and deliver me the books... I WILL DEVOUR IT FOR SURE!!!*

Book Review (a slightly out of ordinary one): The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

Spoilers Free!

Year Published: 2013
Publisher: Atria Books
Pages: 448 pages
Rating: didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it it was amazing (my current rating)

Thanks NetGalley and Atria Books for providing me with the eBook :)

I live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck. I am pressed so hard against the earth by the weight of reality that some days I wonder how I am still able to lift my feet to walk.

Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her—her identity, her spirit, her will to live—pay.

Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at seventeen years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.

Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life. But the more he gets to know her, the more of an enigma she becomes. As their relationship intensifies and the unanswered questions begin to pile up, he starts to wonder if he will ever learn the secrets she’s been hiding—or if he even wants to.

The Sea of Tranquility is a rich, intense, and brilliantly imagined story about a lonely boy, an emotionally fragile girl, and the miracle of second chances.

Since yesterday (15 Feb 2013), I am officially an emotional-wrecked! Thanks to a certain vampire tv series and its angst/tragic/beautiful ship that is my current ultimate OTP. YES! I am talking about you, #TVD S04E14!

And today, I finished reading this book (16 Feb 2013), and it just adds more emotional battle in my heart and soul..

I don't expect that I can be more emotionally-exhausted-and-drained after yesterday.. But it seems it's very much possible..

coz now I am just full of feels and emotions.. and I just don't know what to do..

Okay, so let's talk about this book..

WHAT WITH ALL OF THESE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS??? You guys ruin my life.. huhu (not that I am complaining thou..).. But still... what you guys have done to me?!

Nastya and Josh..... what I can say about them... I feel for these two so much.. Two people who were coming from two different worlds and have their own messed up lives with terrible histories.. They were facing their own demon and isolated from people around them.. Then it was like fate and destiny had their own plan to have these two met and saved each other..

This book has a very beautiful story line, amazing writing, and great character developments..

Like seriously, I don't know what to write, coz I just feel so much when I read this book.. It was like I could feel what these characters feel..

I love how are these characters were written.. especially for Nastya and Josh as the female and male leads in this book. How their characters were shaped from their painful pasts that had caused them to be socially isolated and misunderstood. Although, they were still very much admirable! How strong they were in facing uncertainties in life and how they fought and saved each other.. it was really beautiful and heartfelt.. It just seemed like they were different, but actually they were the same..I could also kinda relate to other characters in the book who were pretty awesome as well.

Then the story line.... I enjoyed the SL so much.. It was great and captivating! love how the writing kinda make the story easy to digest, but still without losing its charms and purpose..

I put this book in the category of New-Adult book.. This one works for me like charm! I love it! definitely goes to my favorite books category..

I got this ebook for review, and I most certain will love to buy a copy of this.. It was just such a beautiful read.. and wish I can hug the writer.... *sending Katja Millay a virtual hugs..*

This was (and still is) my favorite lines from the book:
"Maybe one day you'll come back, Maybe you never will and that'll suck, but you can't keep doing this. The blame and the self-loathing and the bullshit. I can't watch that. It makes me hate you for hating yourself. I don't want to lose you. But I'd rather lose you if it means you'll be happy. I think if you come back with me today, you'll never be okay. And I'll never be okay if you aren't. I need to know that there's away for people like us to end up okay. I need to know that there even is such a thing as okay, or maybe not just okay, maybe even good, and it's out there and we just haven't found it yet. There's got to be a happier ending than this here. There's got to be a better story. Because we deserve one. You deserve one. Even if it doesn't end with you coming back to me."

Maybe my only problem was just, I continued reading this book till finish after I watched a very emotional scene on TVD 4x14, especially Klaroline scenes.. and I just could not help to have Feels-Attack.. coz Nastya and Josh kinda remind me of Klaus and Caroline.. (in their own very way..)

And suddenly I think of this..... O(T^T)O

Sorry for this slightly weird review.. At the moment I am just having so much emotions going on for these four characters.. so it was kinda mixed and I just can not help myself to feel it that way.. hiks.. fictional characters you are going to be the death of me..

*Gifs are not mine, they are belonged to their respectful owners who are very awesome people! ;*

me after reading Cinder:
I can't properly function right now............. I just need to read the sequel at this second!....... (T^T)

Btw..... it's.....

SOLID FIVE GOLD STARS! (and maybe more.........)!

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK! This book has exceeded my expectation!

At first, I was kinda reluctant to read this book.. It was just because it's a retelling story of Cinderella with Cyborgs in it.. and it did not sound appealing to me.. and oh dear God, how happy I am to be proven soooo wrong........ I thank everyone who kept forcing me to read this book.. I need to have a group hug..

This book goes easily directly to my all time fave books! This book is so amazing! ultra-awesome! It's Dystopian! It's Post-apocalyptic! It's Sci-Fi!

I love the story-line! Probably one of the best story-lines I ever read.. It has the right pace, right amount of action, mysteries, conspiracies, and romance, and importantly, great story development. What I like the most from Cinder was that although you can guess a certain thing, but it still can surprise and shock you, thanks to the great timing of revealing that thing..

One other thing that I really love is its originality. Despite of being a retelling book of Cinderella story, it still owned its story-line. It's original and unique. Totally no-where near Cinderella story.. xp

The characters......................... AMAZING Characterization of these awesome fictional characters, whether they are the antagonists or the protagonists.. You just can not help to get drawn with so much feelings to these characters.. Love how Marissa wrote these characters <3 I love Cinder and Kai chemistry, I just love these two characters a lot.. then there is also Dr. Erland, not so much of him, but he is one interesting character.. then Queen Levana, Adri, and Pearl, I hate these three characters with all my being.. haha..

I wonder what had Marissa Meyer been thinking when she wrote this book, how she got the idea.. Because I am still mesmerized by the world setting of this book.. and the story line... and Thank God, I already pre-ordered Scarlett, the sequel of Cinder.. Can't wait to read it.. The ending of this book was quite a cliffhanger!

If you haven't read this book, I strongly urge you to go to a bookstore or open any of book-shopping online website and get this book! It's really a great read! <3

didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it it was amazing

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.

At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

I still can't get over the ending. This book was a roller-coaster journey. Full of twists and mind-boggling moments. Definitely my favorite!

First let me tell you about the cover. I am rarely talking about the cover, thou it's essential and one of those things that lure us to read a book, but it's never really a big of a deal for me. But all covers in the Caster Chronicles series are just amazing! They are GORGEOUS! Elegant, simple and enchanting! very delicious on the eyes! (haha, if that even a right english sentence). Oh well, as long as the message is clear, I LOVE the covers!

Alright, everything that makes a book very enjoyable to read, for me, you can get it from this book. The story is unique and original! Love the idea! I adore the idea! as for the story-flow, I found the first 100 pages of the book was a bit slow. But since then it was really picking up big time! My favorite would be the last 200ish pages towards the end.. Everything went crazy! SO GOOD!

Characters! very unique perspective! This is one of many books out-there that written from male-POV. But I like the fact that Ethan is just a mortal with no (actual supernatural/paranormal) power, just a plain good teenage boy. If it's a typical YA book, the person-POV of the book got to be someone with the power or the designated hero (Thou Ethan is kinda a hero in a way too). If this book was told from Lena POV, I don't think it would be as exciting as it is. I Love Ethan Wate, the lead male character of the book. He is just ordinary and smart, love that he stands to what he believes. I also love Macon Ravenwood, Lena's uncle and Link, Ethan's bestfriend. Lena is okay for me. Other characters, the Gatlin folks and all caster-clan (whether they're light or dark) members are really intriguing and interesting. Those characters annoyed me, intrigued me, and made me laugh. Love how the author wrote and developed their characters and all of their aspects..

Other thing that made me so excited to read the book is because this book is made into a movie! It will hit the theatre in February 2013. I believe it will be in the first week of Feb.. oh well, just check out the awesome movie trailer! Yes, are you excited?????! I know I am xp
